Rondout Kingston, NY

Nestled in the crook of the Hudson and the Rondout Creek, the historic neighborhood of Kingston's Rondout is home to antique stores, excellent restaurants, and a growing fleet of retail shops. After getting yourself a coffee and made-to-order doughnut at the new Half Moon Rondout Cafe, head uphill for last minute presents and a festive day out of the house!

For feminine clothing, Next Boutique on West Strand has been offering popular and hard-to-find brands for over 25 years. Newer to the neighborhood, Zephyr (second location in Rhinebeck) showcases their own, very contemporary collection as well as others in a minimalist boutique.

Further up Broadway, Clove & Creek (second location in Hudson) has been a shared favorite of locals and tourists since it opened in 2016, with its extremely hygge array of home goods and gifts bringing joy to many a northern soul.

Hops Petunia, which opened in the nook of a storefront next to Clove & Creek, recently upgraded to the luxurious corner spot on Broadway and West Strand, where they make locally sourced flower fantasies come to life, as well as offering a lovely collection of candles, gifts, and home decor in their retail space.

Facets of Earth offers its own unique jewelry designs as well as custom orders, using ethically sourced diamonds and gems and recycled precious metals. Bonus: a trip to their lovely storefront lets you scope their open studio. Across the street, you can find a more than a bit of magic at Sassafras Mercantile, which specializes is all things “personal liberation” from teas and herbs to zines and tarot, to a curated selection of vibrators (we did say treat yourself... ;) ).

To cap off your day, you can bring home a bottle of reasonably priced natural wine from Kingston Wine Co, and a sweet treat from Enchanted Cakes. While the neighborhood is beautiful and full of cheer during the holiday season, make sure to come back in the spring when the Clearwater and other historic ships come back to port!

Thank you to Shouting Distance's first and foremost contributor, Christine Baker, for sharing her idea of a beautiful day in the Rondout!
